Music, for me, has always been a way of noticing — a way to hold stillness and motion in the same breath. Sometimes that means writing about love, loss, and the infinite "what ifs" that shape our lives. Other times, it's about the quiet awe of standing in a place where history, nature, and wind converge — and realizing how small, and how connected, we really are.

Dan at the Valley of the Temples - where history, nature, and wind converge

Over time, my songwriting has traced two paths that now intertwine. The first began with Stolen Moments — songs about relationships, memory, and the social and emotional forces that define our time. The second grew from travel, from photographing ancient ruins and wind-sculpted coastlines, and from learning humility on a wingfoil — when nature itself becomes both teacher and collaborator. Together, these songs form a conversation between reflection and motion, between the inner and outer world.

Lately, I've been experimenting with Suno.AI to create new musical arrangements while continuing to write all the lyrics myself. That process lets me focus on emotion and lyrical essence — turning the feeling of a place or moment into music. Often, what begins as a visual spark — a stretch of blue water, a crumbling archway, a gust of wind — evolves into a song that shapes how I see everything around me.

If this kind of music speaks to you — songs that look inward and reach outward — I'd love to stay connected. Through Songs for Thought, I share new releases, behind-the-scenes stories, and reflections on the creative process.

It's also a place to connect 1-on-1 with me and with other listeners through occasional online meetups — relaxed gatherings where we talk about music, creativity, travel, and the ideas behind the songs.

Nashville Music Guide

"a cool mix of intricate and spicy jazz with a splash of Latin rhythm progressions and some nice arrangements of traditional folk rock. The mood is charged with connotations of political thoughts and concerns about what our future world will face as well as thoughts of dysfunctional relationships and how they affect us."

Now Hear This

"Rubinstein has a lovely voice and musically this is just fine. Lyrically is where he does the most work though… melodic and likable, what's underneath the surface … will stay with you… Strong cafe rock … in the vein of a modern-day Woody Guthrie."
